Sacramento Custom Doors
23 project photographs — every one an AV’s Cabinets build.

Building doors by hand is where Andrey’s training began — in his grandfather’s woodworking shop in Latvia, using old-world techniques. The doors below were built by AV’s Cabinets: paneled interior doors, arched entries, and cabinet-grade door work matched to the millwork around them.

Why a built door is different from a bought one
A hand-built door is stile-and-rail construction: vertical stiles and horizontal rails framing panels that float in grooves. The floating panel is the whole point — wood expands and contracts across the grain with the seasons, and a panel free to move does so without splitting the frame or cracking the finish.
This is the oldest skill in the portfolio. Andrey trained in old-world door and cabinet building in his grandfather’s woodworking shop in Latvia, and doors are where that training shows most directly — arched heads, non-standard openings, and matched sets a supplier catalogue does not carry.
Matching matters as much as making. A new door in an older house has to answer to the existing casing, panel proportions, and hardware height, or it reads as a replacement forever. Photographs and measurements of what is already there are the fastest way to start.
Custom Doors — questions, answered
- Can you match doors to the ones already in my house?
- Usually — panel proportions, profile, and thickness can all be reproduced. Photographs of an existing door plus its measurements tell us quickly whether it is a true match or a considered near-match.
- Do you build arched or non-standard openings?
- Yes. Arched heads and openings that are not a catalogue size are exactly where a built door beats a bought one, because there is no standard size to design around in the first place.
- Interior doors only, or entry doors as well?
- Both are within the shop’s work. An exterior door carries weather and security requirements an interior door does not, so those get scoped specifically rather than assumed.
