Why clean lines are harder, not easier
Flat-panel and slab work removes the ornament a traditional door hides behind, which means every remaining decision has to be exact. Reveals have to stay true along a run, doors have to hang dead flat, and where grain continues across adjacent fronts the material has to be sequenced from the same boards before anything is cut. There is nothing to distract the eye from a seam that drifts.
Materials do the talking in this register: rift-cut white oak, walnut, and quarter-sawn stock for straight grain; matte and satin finishes that hold fingerprints less than gloss; integrated or edge-pull hardware so the door edge becomes the detail. Two-tone kitchens and floating vanities belong here too.
