Placer County’s seat, in the foothills

Custom Cabinets & Woodwork in Auburn, CA

Auburn — Placer County’s seat, up the hill from the valley suburbs — has the county’s most interesting housing mix: Gold Rush-era buildings around Old Town, early-1900s homes on the older streets, and custom foothill houses in the surrounding canyons and ridges. AV’s Cabinets builds for all of it from the Rocklin shop twenty minutes down Interstate 80: custom kitchens, vanities, built-ins, doors, and the period-sympathetic detail work older homes deserve.

Older homes are a different craft problem

In a house with real age, cabinetry has to respect what is already there: casings and baseboards with profiles nobody stocks anymore, walls that left square a century ago, and rooms that were never meant for slab-door minimalism. This is where Andrey’s training matters — old-world door and cabinet building by hand, inset and raised-panel work, and the stacked mouldings that make new work read as if it always belonged.

The Vintage side of the portfolio — glazed finishes, corbels, furniture detailing — is the natural language for Auburn’s traditional homes, while foothill custom houses often go the other way entirely, toward clean stained-wood work that fits the trees outside the windows.

South-east of town, Lake of the Pines is a gated community of roughly two thousand homes built from 1967 around a lake with five miles of shoreline — foothill houses that have been remodelled through several eras and often want their cabinetry brought back to one language.

Permits & building authority

Auburn is an incorporated city, but much of the surrounding foothill housing — including North Auburn — is unincorporated and permitted through Placer County. Which authority applies depends on which side of the city line you’re on; we flag it during design. Official resource: City of Auburn building division (or Placer County outside city limits).

The cabinetmaker

Every project here is designed with you and built to order in the Rocklin shop by Andrey Voronenko — the craftsman AV’s is named for — who oversees the installation. His story.

Auburn questions, answered

Can you match the original millwork in an older Auburn home?
Matching period profiles is hand-tool-era craft, and it is specifically the tradition Andrey trained in. Bring photos and a measurement or two to the consultation; matching feasibility gets assessed honestly before anything is promised.
Is Auburn too far from your shop?
Not at all — it’s a straight run up I-80 from Rocklin. Foothill and canyon properties are a normal part of the working radius.
City or county permits in Auburn?
Inside city limits, the City of Auburn; in the surrounding unincorporated areas like North Auburn, Placer County. It’s worth confirming early, and we do.
