Custom Cabinets in Grass Valley, CA
Grass Valley built its streets on hard-rock mining — the Empire Mine’s town — and its housing still tells that story: Victorian and early-1900s homes near downtown, mid-century infill, and custom foothill houses in the surrounding pines. AV’s Cabinets serves all three from the Rocklin shop down Highway 49, building kitchens, vanities, built-ins, and doors to order and installing them personally.
Historic streets and forest houses
Near downtown, the work is character work: face-frame and inset construction, painted finishes in period-honest tones, and built-ins that read original to houses a century old. Out in the pines, foothill customs usually want the opposite register — stained wood, clean lines, cabinetry that frames trees instead of competing with them. Both are one-off problems, which suits a one-off shop.
Grass Valley’s older housing also brings practical quirks — settled floors, plaster walls, nonstandard openings — that custom fabrication absorbs by design: measure the room as it is, build to what it actually measures.
West of town, Lake Wildwood is a gated community laid out in the 1960s around a three-hundred-acre lake — another pocket of one-off foothill houses rather than tract stock.
The cabinetmaker
Every project here is designed with you and built to order in the Rocklin shop by Andrey Voronenko — the craftsman AV’s is named for — who oversees the installation. His story.
