Tahoe City is a census-designated place, so building permits run through Placer County — and inside the Tahoe Basin the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency has land-use jurisdiction over many site and exterior changes. Cabinetry itself is interior work and generally outside TRPA scope; a remodel that goes further gets its jurisdiction questions settled during design.
