San Mateo County — the architecture town
Custom Cabinets in Hillsborough, CA
Hillsborough is a purely residential town whose houses were built to be looked at: Tudor, Mediterranean, and Colonial Revival estates laid out across wooded hillside lots through the early twentieth century, most of them since remodeled by owners who took the architecture seriously. Cabinetry here is a matching problem before it is a storage problem — and matching old millwork is the craft Andrey trained in, in his grandfather’s shop, before he ever ran his own.
Speaking the house’s own language
A Tudor wants different joinery than a Mediterranean, and a 1920s revival wants different proportions than either. Getting that right is a matter of reading what already exists — profile depths, panel proportions, the way a stile meets a rail — and then building new work that behaves as though it had always been there. Raised panels, glazed finishes, corbels, and stacked crown are the shop’s traditional vocabulary; the Vintage collection is where that register lives.
The other half of a Hillsborough project is usually the opposite request: give a hundred-year-old house a kitchen that functions like a new one, without announcing it. Interiors organized for modern appliances and real storage, behind doors that belong to the period — that is the whole argument for building to order.

The cabinetmaker
Every project here is designed with you and built to order in the Rocklin shop by Andrey Voronenko — the craftsman AV’s is named for — who oversees the installation. His story.

Permits & building authority
Hillsborough is an incorporated, residentially zoned town running its own building department. Remodels of older estates frequently surface era-specific conditions — plaster, original wiring, out-of-square openings — which is exactly why they get flagged during design rather than during install. Official resource: Town of Hillsborough Building Department.
What we build for Hillsborough
Hillsborough questions, answered
- Can you match existing millwork in a period estate?
- Yes — matching profiles, proportions, and finishes to original work is old-world cabinetmaking, and it is the training behind this shop. Photographs of the existing details at the consultation are the fastest way to start.
- Our house is nearly a century old and nothing is square. Is that a problem?
- It is the normal condition for houses this age, and built-to-order construction answers it by design: measure the room as it actually is, then build to those measurements instead of to a catalog’s.
