Northern California’s private golf communities are where the region’s custom homes are concentrated — Martis Valley above Lake Tahoe, Winchester on the Placer ridge, Serrano on the Highway 50 corridor, and the master-planned clubs across the valley floor. Houses in them are built one at a time, to guidelines, usually with an architect and a designer already involved.
AV’s Cabinets is built for exactly that: one craftsman who designs the millwork with you, makes it to order in the Rocklin shop, and oversees its installation — no chain of vendors between the drawing and the wall.
What actually differs about these projects
There are guidelines
Communities like these run design review. It mostly governs the architecture rather than your cabinet doors, but it can shape finishes and anything visible from outside. Bring the guidelines to design selection and they become a constraint we build to.
You already have a team
There is normally an architect, a builder, and an interior designer in place. Cabinetry drawings that arrive while the house is still framed prevent the expensive kind of surprise — so the maker joins that conversation early, not at trim stage.
The gate is a schedule
Access lists, delivery windows, and construction hours are real constraints on install day. They are planned at the consultation rather than negotiated at the gatehouse with a loaded truck.
The house has a language
Mountain-modern in Martis Valley reads nothing like Mediterranean on the Highway 50 corridor. Built-to-order work can speak either, because nothing is chosen from a fixed catalogue.
Scope is usually the whole house
Kitchen, pantry, bar, study, primary bath, ceilings, and doors — planned together so the house reads as one intention. That scope has its own page: estate cabinetry.
Mountain wood moves
At altitude, dry heated winters and humid thaws move solid wood. Panels built to float and finishes chosen for stability are a construction decision made up front, not a callback later.

Lahontan
The first private gated community developed in Martis Valley; two Tom Weiskopf courses.

Winchester Country Club

Lake of the Pines
A gated community of roughly 2,000 homes around a lake with five miles of shoreline, developed from 1967, with a 19-hole course.
Placer valley

Catta Verdera at Twelve Bridges
A gated community around the course that opened in 1996 as Twelve Bridges Golf Club.

Gated on all sides with private security, developed from 2003 across more than 500 acres of oaks and wetlands.

- Do you work inside gated communities?
- Yes. Gate access, delivery windows, and construction-hour rules are planning inputs like any other — they get settled at the consultation so nothing is discovered on the morning of an install.
- Our community has an architectural review committee. Does that affect cabinetry?
- Usually it governs the exterior and the overall architectural language rather than interior cabinet doors, but it can shape finishes, wood species, and anything visible through glass. Bring the guidelines to the design conversation and they get designed around rather than argued with later.
- Can you coordinate with our builder and interior designer?
- That is the normal shape of a project in these communities. Cabinetry drawings that land while the house is still framed save real time, and that only happens when the maker, the builder, and the designer are reading the same set early.
- Do you build for the whole house or just the kitchen?
- Both. Whole-house millwork — kitchen, library, bar, ceilings, and doors designed as one language — is covered on the estate cabinetry page, and it is the most common shape of work in these neighbourhoods.
